Free Fall: The Art of Living and Dying

September 14-16, 2012

Location: Wardsboro, Vermont

A basic maxim of world wisdom traditions is that in order to live fully one must come to terms with the reality of death.  A Medieval prayer succinctly states this relationship between life and death: To be blessed in death, one must learn to live/To be blessed in life, one must learn to die.

On our soul’s journey each of us periodically experiences small deaths as an old part of ourselves dies in order to give birth to something new.  These experiences of letting-go or emptying-out are a preparation for that final crossing.  This program, through various readings, exercises, and rituals, including an American Indian Death Lodge, will seek to bring a heighten awareness to this process of emptying as a means to activate a deeper appreciation of the preciousness of each moment.  As shamans practice, we will use death as an ally and teacher, allowing us to recapitulate the past, shedding the weight of our wounds, so that we may open more fully to the destiny that calls us forward into a more abundant life.
